Stigma

Sorry for not responding no more

She don’t care about anything

Reached a dangerous saturation point

A sole that decayed inside

Being every one’s rock

She forgot to be her own

With a smile she greeted her troubles

Lent a ear to the needed

Became a voice of the unheard

She was a ray of rainbow everyone craved to be

But something has changed

She stopped smiling

The monotonous reality

Drained her off her radiance

She sees the glass half empty than full

Just like her delusional existence

Present but meaningless

In a vacuum of thoughts

That sucked her dreams along

Inner freedom of imprisonment

Is a storm that is brewing

A lie to many achievements

A week being

Stuck in a rat race

Prey to incomplete conversations

Broken silence finally felt like home

When she needed her closest the most

She locked herself from the world

Hid the truth that she was in stage 2 cancer

The sad part was the no one never noticed

She looked inhuman

Her hair started falling out

So did her strength to fight death

But with hope she took her every breath

She drifted along

Just like clouds

Never stopping

Only to return as a storm

Capturing everyone’s tears at her funeral

She finally mastered the art of balance

Between holding on and letting go.

She won this race of life

To becoming a person worth remembering

And to be looked up to

The sarcastic life looked upon her broken soul

Bid her farewell to a eternity of peace

As it was all that she deserved ..

  7. Sometimes, it takes something life-threatening like cancer for us to realize, we need to shift the focus back to our selves, and so, we begin, putting our selves as our own, top priority, instead of always putting others, first…

  8. This was painful to read – in a good way. Very well done.

BTW – I think you meant “soul” not “sole” (but I could be wrong!)

This is so beautifully written….and very much relatable….sometimes it takes a big hit to shake….to awaken the “sleeping” soul….I’m living it as well….the highs & the lows….I’m loving to live from a different place….some parts are senseless….though I’ve got my senses back….keep writing such amazing pieces….keep painting from the depths, Raghavasree

  11. Joel Abakah says:

    This is sadπŸ’”
Sometimes people with an illness like cancer want to be treated like everyone else without the disease being their centre of focus. So some choose to channel their happiness towards making others happy, just so they don’t think of their condition as often. Others prefer to look after themselves and isolate from the world thinking their disease is all the world will see. It’s really the balance between self love and exhibiting that same energy towards others that can make it all worthwhile.
It’s sad the character in this poem leaned far on just one side. Lovely poem G!πŸ’š
